Technological monuments

Vranov is not only rich in castles, chateaus and churches, but there are also a lot of important technological landmarks. Besides the Vranov dam, which is probably the most popular technological gem here, you can also enjoy military monuments and a number of thematic museums.

FORTRESS MUSEUM NEAR VRANOV NAD DYJÍ

The fortress museum is located near the Junácké valley nearby Vranov nad Dyjí. From a historical standpoint, it is part of a military defence line of South Moravia. This section is also strategically important as it formed a defensive zone around the Vranov dam. The fortification was formed from the mid 30’s of 20th century, as a reaction to the rising Nazi danger. Almost 900 bunkers arose as part of the defensive line between Slavonice, Znojmo and Břeclav.
HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT VRANOV NAD DYJÍ
Those interested in technological monuments should pay a visit to the hydroelectric power plant Vranov nad Dyjí, opening its doors to the public regularly. The excursion guides will bring you closer to the history and present of the accumulative hydropower plant, which was put into operation as early as 1934. Here, you can see with your own eyes the extensive technological facilities and equipment, providing smooth daily operation of the plant, as well as a number of historical evidence that will introduce you to the development of power plant technology.
Guided tours can be arranged throughout the year, whether you go in as a group or alone, and are free for visitors.

TATRA MUSEUM BÍTOV

The Tatra museum in Bítov offers an extensive collection of historical cars. In addition to the legendary Tatra models you get a chance to see vehicles of many foreign manufacturers as well.

THE FIRST CZECH MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM

Riding a powerful motorcycle with the wind in your hair – such is the image of embodied freedom. If you are captivated by motorcycles, don’t hesitate to visit the motorcycle museum in Lesná, home of over a hundred restored historical pieces.
